Palm Beach is the quiet one. Forty minutes north of Fort Lauderdale the water gets clearer, the crowds thin out and the charter day slows down: Peanut Island and its sandbar, the Intracoastal past the estates of Palm Beach island, and the Lake Worth Inlet straight out to the Gulf Stream, which runs closer to shore here than anywhere else in Florida.

Where you actually go
The swim stop. A small island at the mouth of the Lake Worth Inlet with a snorkel lagoon and a sandbar that fills up on weekends. Clear water on the incoming tide, and fifteen minutes from most of the marinas.
Worth Avenue from the water. A slow cruise along the island side of the lake, past the estates and the Flagler Bridge, and up toward Singer Island. Calm, flat and good with a long lunch aboard.
Half an hour north. The lighthouse, the clear inlet water and the sandbar inside, and a quieter scene than anything further south. Good for a family day.
The Stream runs only a few miles offshore here, which is why the sportfishing fleet lives in Palm Beach. West End on Grand Bahama is around sixty miles east, and the Abacos are reachable overnight on a proper yacht.

When is the best time to charter in Palm Beach?+
December to April. That is when the fleet is in town, the weather is dry and the water is at its clearest. In summer many of the larger boats move north to the Hamptons and New England, so the choice narrows; we will tell you honestly what is here.
How long is a charter day, and how many guests?+
Four, six and eight hours on most boats, plus sunset runs. In US waters most charter yachts carry up to twelve guests regardless of age; larger inspected vessels take more.
What is included in the price?+
The yacht and crew for the agreed hours. Fuel is inside the rate or quoted per trip, and the listing says which. Florida sales tax applies to the hire. Gratuity for the crew is customary at fifteen to twenty per cent. The quote shows the all in number before you pay anything.
Can you arrange a Bahamas crossing from Palm Beach?+
Yes, on a boat set up for it. West End and the Abacos are the natural targets from here. It is a long day or, better, an overnight, and we pick a boat and crew that do the crossing regularly.
